What are trading fees? Maker, taker and the 0.10% spot fee: Velxen blog cover with rising candlestick chart in amber on a dark background

Every exchange charges a small fee when an order fills. Knowing how fees work helps you plan and compare trades.

Maker and taker

  • A taker order fills immediately against orders already in the book, for example a market order.
  • A maker order adds liquidity by waiting in the book, for example a limit order below the current price.

Many exchanges charge different rates for each. On Velxen, spot trades cost 0.10%.

Working out the fee

Buy 500 USDT worth of a coin: 500 × 0.10% = 0.50 USDT in fees. Sell it later for 550 USDT: 550 × 0.10% = 0.55 USDT. Total fees for the round trip: about 1.05 USDT.

Why fees matter more for frequent traders

If you trade many times a day, small fees add up. Ten round trips of 500 USDT cost about 10 USDT. Before trading often, make sure your expected gains are much bigger than your fees.

Other costs to know

  • Spread: the gap between the best buy and sell prices in the order book.
  • Slippage: the extra cost when a large market order eats through several price levels.
  • Network fees when you withdraw crypto to another wallet.

See the fee for each order in the order panel on the Trade page before you confirm.
