How to spot a crypto scam: 10 warning signs
Scammers follow the same scripts again and again. Learn the signs and you can stop most of them before they cost you anything.
Ten warning signs
- Guaranteed profits. Real markets never guarantee returns.
- Pressure to act now. "Only 10 minutes left" is designed to stop you thinking.
- Someone asks for your password, 2FA code or recovery phrase. No genuine company ever needs these.
- "Support" contacts you first on WhatsApp, Telegram or Instagram.
- You must pay a fee to withdraw your "profits". This is the classic investment scam ending.
- A stranger online wants to teach you trading and moves you to a private platform.
- Payment proof by screenshot instead of money in your bank.
- A website address that is almost right, such as an extra letter or a different ending.
- Giveaways that ask you to send coins first to receive double back.
- Romance that turns into investment talk.
